The Gaia Leadership Project Presents
We know you care deeply about getting the facts right and combatting disinformation in real time. And the good news is that with the right skillset, it’s easy to do the good work of filtering media and speaking the truth, rather than circulating online fiction designed to divide and destroy.
Now, you can learn everything you need to know to deconstruct media bias, destroy disinformation, and speak the truth for the betterment of all in just four short weeks.
The past few years have seen unprecedented media bias, misinformation and disinformation circulating online.
Whether it originates through AI, bots, foreign actors, or media sources with an agenda, disinformation and media bias is everywhere– and it’s an urgent threat to our democracy.
What’s the Course Syllabus?
The program is divided into four segments, with one week devoted to each segment, as follows.
All training is on video, and will land in your inbox every Monday.
This week, we’ll answer key questions like: What is media literacy? What is the difference between misinformation and disinformation? How can we identify signals that we are dealing with media bias, bots or trolls online? This week sets a foundation for the entire course.
This week, we’ll take you through a step-by-step process on how to create your own internal media filter, so you can avoid being taken in by clickbait, opinion pieces, or journalism with an obvious bias. By the end of the week, you’ll know all that you need to know to filter your media consumption on a daily basis, no matter what the algorithms send your way.
This week, we’ll talk through how to identify disinformation online, how to respond to it (or not!), how to work the algorithms on social media to lower your chances of being exposed to it, and how to counter disinformation when it has an impact on friends and family. Misinformation management will also be addressed this week.
In our final week in the course, we’ll discuss how to fight back collectively against information manipulation and propaganda that is designed to divide us and influence elections and democracy. This week, our focus will be on working together, supporting ethical journalism, and creating cycles of truth-telling to break through bias and information warfare to preserve democracy.
✔️ Onboarding.
The course will open with an onboarding video shortly after registration that will describe how to manage the online platform hosting the course, how to engage with your classmates, how to reach us to troubleshoot, and more.
