EverythingThis week, I’ve had a number of clients complaining to me about where they find themselves in life in comparison to others.

“That woman I went to graduate school with is running her own amazing philanthropic foundation. Why aren’t I doing that?”

“That guy is monetizing a brilliant idea that I had a year ago but didn’t know what to do with. What is wrong with me?”

“Every one of my friends is making huge bank and I’m floundering in a job where I haven’t been promoted in five years. When will I ever get to where I want to go?”

When you’re plagued with self-doubt about the path that you’re walking, it’s sometimes hard to keep going.

This is the moment where I usually start talking about two things: the nature of the path we walk, and the topic of faith.

This is where I can also get a little esoteric. Stick with me.

Here’s what I believe.

I believe that we are all on the path we are meant to be walking to learn what we came here to learn in this life.

What does this mean in practical terms?

It means that there are no wrong turns, and there are no wrong choices.

It also means that each of us is exactly where we are supposed to be, right here, right now.

What it doesn’t mean, however, is that the path is easy.

That, too, is part of the path you chose.

The lessons that are available to you in this life may not often be easy to learn.

That, in fact, is part of why they’re so valuable.

So how do you tackle the bumpy, rough-and-tumble, and even traumatic events that come to pass on the path you are walking?

This is where faith comes in.

A little confession:

Even as a coach, even as a leader, and even as someone who “knows better,” I too am plagued some days by self-doubt.

This is particularly true when I am launching a new endeavor.

I wonder if I’m on the right path.

I wonder if others will be inspired and excited by what I’m doing.

I wonder if I’m really living my mission in life.

Some days, it seems like the answer to all of that is a resounding NO.

And yet . . .

. . . what I’ve found is that if I keep going ANYWAY, the Universe will provide me with confirmation that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

In practical terms, this means that just when I’m worried about having the money to finish the next step of a project, money arrives from an unexpected source.

Or exactly the right person with exactly the right connections shows up at exactly the right moment.

Or the person I need to complete my team suddenly knocks on my virtual door via email and says, hey, I love your mission, I really want to get involved.

In fact, something like this happened to me just yesterday, in a HUGE, unexpected way.

Which brings me back to faith.

I’m here to tell you that if you have faith that you’re on the right path, you will get signs from the Universe of where you need to pay attention, and confirmation of where to head next. Yep, sounds a little woo-woo, but it’s true.

Want to test it out? Try this.

If you’re struggling with a decision this week, or wondering if you’re on the right path in a given area of your life, just ask the Universe to show you a sign of whether you’re headed in the right direction.

All you have to do next is to pay very close attention.

To what’s around you when you’re walking around outside.

To who arrives in your life.

To opportunities that suddenly present themselves out of nowhere.

And then to laugh when the answer mysteriously arrives.

I think you’ll find that when you ask, the answers always, always arrive, and sometimes in huge, unexpected ways.

Faith is about knowing that you can’t go wrong if you’re paying attention and asking for the guidance that is available all around you. Trust me on this.

And if you have great success with this experiment, be sure to let me know what you’ve uncovered in the comments below.

Have a great week.

All the best,

Elizabeth
