Gaia Women Lead
Beyond Resistance: Heroines, Change and Building the Future
May 2-4, 2018 | Santa Barbara, CA
Panelist – Intersectionality
Shannon Waters is a bridge between 2 worlds. She is mixed blood, Coast Salish from Stz’uminus First Nation on her mother’s side and Swedish, Scottish and Hungarian on her father’s side. Her role as an Indigenous woman, daughter, sister, friend, auntie and mother brings her the grounding, and her training as a Public Health and Preventive Medicine Physician brings her the experience, to see that our collective journey of healing must be transformed. Shannon’s career has brought her full circle where she now works as the Medical Health Officer, protecting and advocating for health in her home territory, the beautiful Cowichan Valley Region. Shannon’s life work is to bridge worldviews, to shift the focus from health as an end state to healing as a journey, and to honor the ancestral story of her people by walking with other women to form the backbone of this transformation.
