Panelist – Women’s Electoral Activism in 2018

Rachelle Suissa has spent over 13 years developing and coordinating programs for nonprofit organizations.  Rachelle is the founder of Dare to Run, Inc., a New York state organization whose mission is to train women to run for office at the local, state and national levels of government. Her goal is to expand the mission and focus of Dare to Run to 13 states by 2021.  Rachelle graduated from the New School in 2017 with her Master of Science Degree in Nonprofit Management from the Milano School for International Affairs, Management and Urban Policy.  Prior to that, she earned her first Master of Arts in Political Science from Brooklyn College in 2010.  Rachelle worked with the Brooklyn Queens Chapter of the National Organization for Women for 13 years.  She was elected Vice-President 2006-2013 and then served as President from 2013-2017.  During her time with the National Organization for Women, she organized over 20 community-based events for women and represented the chapter at schools, colleges and universities around New York.
In addition to her work with NOW, Ms. Suissa has also developed programs for several other nonprofits.  Ms. Suissa also worked as a professor in the political science department at Brooklyn College.  She implemented the team-based learning initiative into the core curriculum for Introduction to American Government and Introduction to Global Politics for the STAR and College NOW Programs.  Rachelle also served as the program manager from 2011-2014 for the Quality of Life Innovations Program at Working in Support of Education. In this position, she developed a high school research program that encourages students to select a quality of life issue in their community and compose a research paper that addresses an adequate solution to the problem.  Ms. Suissa also served as the fiscal analysis intern for the New York City Department of Human Resources, where she analyzed the New York State Budget and looked for funding that could be provided for NYC based social welfare programs.
Ms. Suissa is a lifelong resident of Brooklyn and currently resides in Marine Park.
